Trends / Tips for Maintaining Your Wood Floors

renewBeautify your existing wood floors with our re-coating procedures. Whether we originally laid your floors or someone else did, no matter, let our qualified staff of salespeople evaluate your floors. If your floor is a candidate, we will prescribe the perfect remedy. If you damaged or scratched your floors, we can help. Our staff of advisors will schedule a touch-up. Contact Mr. Floor for a free, in home inspection.

A dull finish is usually a sign of problems - the deterioration of the protective coating. It is important to keep your floors protected with proper amounts of polyurethane.

We will determine what finish is required for your lifestyle. Ask your salesperson about details on this maintenance process.

To help you enjoy the lasting beauty of your floor, here is a suggested guide for care & maintenance.

Initial Care:

  1. Avoid heavy foot traffic for the first 24 hours after the final coat. Stocking feet are suggested.
  2. The full curing process of polyurethane requires 14 days. Do not replace rugs or mats during that time period for proper drying. (Applies to field applied polyurethane finishes)
  3. Never drag furniture across your floor. This can scratch the finish or burnish and possibly deform the wood itself.
  4. Use felt floor protector pads on all your furniture. (Available at Mr. Floor Companies for $4.00 per 12 pieces) (Shop www.mrfloor.com) NOTE: Narrow plastic rollers on furniture should be replaced with wide rubber rollers.
  5. Wipe up spills immediately. Do not wash your floor for at least a week from the time of the final coat.

Regular care & maintenance.

  1. Dust mop and/or vacuum as often as possible. (Grit is the #1 enemy to the longevity of any finish)
  2. Oil soaps, abrasive cleaners (Soft Scrub, etc), or ammonia cleaner should not be used on your floor.
  3. Mr. Floor Companies recommends using our specially formulated non toxic floor cleaner to thoroughly clean your wood floors. It will clean with no build up or dulling residue. (Available at Mr. Floor Companies for $12.00 per bottle or $25.00 per gallon)(Shop www.mrfloor.com)
  4. Use mats/entry rugs at exterior doors to catch grit. These should be cleaned regularly.
  5. Use runners or area rugs in your high traffic areas.
  6. Protect your floor from excessive sunlight, as wood floors are affected by ultra- violet light. During the hours when the sun’s rays are the strongest, drapes or blinds should be drawn.
  7. Contact Mr. Floor Companies as necessary for a recoating finish process to Maintain a solid protective finish.
  8. Please note: Glass, which is harder than any urethane coating, will scratch under an excited pet’s sharp claws. Limit your pet’s access to any finished wood floor.
A dull finish is usually a sign of problems.

Deterioration is caused by a lack of finish or protective coatings. Keep your floors protected with proper amounts of polyurethane.

We will determine what finish is required for your lifestyle. Ask your salesperson about details on this maintenance process.
